UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Circa 425-430. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.35 g, 11 h), imitating Valentinian III (425-455), uncertain mint in Gaul. D N PLA VALENT-NIANVS P F AVG Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Valentinian III to right. Rev. VICTOR-A AVGGG / R - V / COMOB Valentinian III standing front, head to right, his left foot set on bound captive lying on the ground, holding labarum in his right hand and Victory on globe in his left. RIC X 3711 ('Visigoths'). Rare and with a fine old pedigree. The flan straigthened, otherwise, good very fine.
